A summary of what the Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) says about patient certification. Check the OCP FAQ for the current rules.

  1. See a medical provider

In Maine's medical cannabis program, a physician, certified nurse practitioner or physician assistant can provide a written certification.

  2. Full assessment

A certification may be made only within a bona fide provider–patient relationship, after the provider has completed a full assessment of your medical history.

  3. Your certification

Providers must issue a physical certification on OCP's tamper-resistant paper. They may also give you a digital image of it, which must be legible and include all the information on the physical certification.

  4. Cost

The cost depends on the provider. The State does not charge providers for the certifications they issue.
